WE DID IT LADS AND LASSIES!

TL:DR; Two years ago, I set out to try and make my first creative dollar.

The goal has finally been reached! The cheque is out of the e-mail!

And it was real people who made it possible. Real people I don't even personally know! Real people out there that saw what I was making, saw what I was building and some of them said "I want to support that" and paid me for it. Wild.

Anyway, anyway on with the rest of da post.

The Rest of Da Post.

So, I've not written a blog post in at least 2-ish years, because this blog was a feature of my previous pursuit trying to get into and understand developer advocacy.

Which we like totally did. Travelled the world and everything. Found it wasn't really for me and moved back into software engineering.

But just because that adventure was over, didn't mean I wanted to give up all the parts of it I really enjoyed.

Making fun videos, talking to people, getting involved in communities, replying to comments, researching marketing, building crazy things for the fun of it.

Just because it wasn't my job any more doesn't mean I couldn't do it in my spare time. And as a bit of extra challenge what if I tried to see if could make a dollar from it?

Could I become the fabled 'Content Creatooor'?

Heck NAW! Are you crazy?! That's stuff's waaaay too hard. But we somehow ended up becoming something else entirely oddly enough.

I really enjoyed making videos creating different technological ideas and sharing the prototypes with the world. And one of those prototypes caught the eye of the public.

So, I decided. "Lemme try make it".

Did I doubt I could do it? Obviously.

Did we end up making it though? Yes.

And the video journey bringing that prototype to life has been collectively seen by at least a few million people or so, and thousands have actively tried it out around the world.

And a subsection of those who tried out the early access; paid me for it.

Double Wild.

Now since this blog is completely separate from my new online persona I'm not going to link what I've been doing here, since I really liked having a complete separation between the two.

If you desire to stalk me it's not terribly difficult, but please do so with tact.

This blog was for my time as a developer advocate.

What I'm working on now is for fun. I have zero desire to link the two.

So What Now?

Well, the project isn't an overwhelming life-changing success, just a personal one, so I don't think anything really changes.

I'm gonna just keep doing what I'm doing.

This post is just a way for me to close the door on something I promised myself to try and achieve 2 years ago.

It reminds of something that happened during my time practising stand-up comedy in London.

Which ironically enough, I also referenced in the previous post. (I guess that was a very transformative time).

I was at a gong show, where the point of the show is to try and survive 5 minutes on stage telling jokes where the crowd can vote you off.

Although it seems like a short amount of time, it's surprisingly nerve-whacking and unfortunately I never succeeded at one. (I still have the videos, but I'll save it for after my funeral).

Anyway, there was an incredibly funny person who came on and smashed it. The crowd loved them and they ended up winning the night.

I decided to chat to them afterwards and found out he'd been doing comedy for a few years and even reached the point where they were doing international performances in Spain.

He said that years ago, he bombed on that same stage and it had been in the back on his mind for awhile.

Even though his career had reached the point where he had far surpassed that stage, he needed to go back and perform there one more time, just to prove that this time he could do it.

Just to prove it to himself.

Just to defeat that one bug-bear that had been stuck in the back of his mind.

And he did.

And now, as have I.
